East Alton is a small, tight-knit community tucked between Alton and Wood River along the Illinois side of the Mississippi River. The lots here are mature. The trees are older. And the neighborhoods along streets like College Avenue, Landmarks Boulevard, and the residential corridors off of Route 140 carry the kind of established canopy that takes generations to grow and only one bad storm to damage.
Arbor Junkies is the tree service East Alton residents call when the job needs to be done right. Owner Eric Thornsberry brings 18 years of professional climbing experience to every property he works, and he’s on-site for every single job. Not managing from a truck. Not sending a crew ahead. On the property, hands-on, from start to cleanup.
East Alton presents specific conditions that not every tree service company is prepared to handle well.
The community borders the Mississippi River bottomland, which means silver maples, cottonwoods, and willows are common across residential properties. These species grow quickly, develop heavy limb spread, and are prone to storm failure. When a severe weather system tracks through Madison County, which happens reliably every spring and summer, it’s these trees that tend to come down first.
The residential layout adds another layer of complexity. East Alton’s older neighborhoods have mature trees growing in tight spaces between homes, close to detached garages, and directly over utility lines. There isn’t always room to simply drop a tree. The work requires planning, the right equipment, and a climber who has spent years reading how large trees behave under tension.
East Alton also sits close to industrial and commercial corridors near the Hartford and Wood River refinery areas, and some properties along the northern edges of town reflect that mixed-use character. Larger lots, older infrastructure, and trees that have never been maintained are common in these areas.
